Street Art in London

Today the whole class went on a tour starting at Old Street in central London. Our tour guide showed us many interesting street arts and gave us lots of valuable information. In total we saw around 70 street artworks, there were so many different pieces and styles. As we walked around I kept noticing even more street art around the place on walls, the floor, on sides of buildings and in hidden little cracks and corners.
I had a great time walking around looking at all the different types of street art, the tour guide was very interesting as well and had lots of facts about each art piece.

This image if by a street artist called Ben Wilson who uses pieces of old chewing gum and paints onto then using varnish and acrylic. In this piece he painted the view in front of him of Old Street underground station. I really like the idea of using something witch is normally disgusting and ugly and turning into something beautiful and a work of art.

I really liked this one it is by Conor Harrington and is situated in a nearby market from Old Street. Harrington used a mixture of spray paints and acrylic paints to create this. I like the way it drips down the wall as if it it melting, also it is very professional looking and was not done by using a stencil like most street artists use for example Banksy.
The spray paint creates a dripping effect whereas the acrylic paint adds light and dark tones making the piece look more realistic.

An artist called Don spray painted these stencils onto this door, I really like the woman's face but I don't get what it mean.
The stencil at the bottom although it is simple but to me it is very effective, our tour guide told us the meaning behind it. It is about bankers and how they are running the money dry and wasting the as well, that's why there is a tap on top of his head and also water coming from his feet, so although it is a simple stencil design it is very effective in getting the meaning and message across to the public/audience.

This is by an artist called Xylo, hen is an artist who put up these little gold Panamanian frog's around places like London but we was told there are many around the world also. The Panamanian Frog is a critically endangered toad which is from and unique to Panama. While the IUCN still lists it as critically endangered, it may have been extinct in the wild since 2007. Individuals have been collected for breeding in captivity in a bid to preserve the species. This artist has a cause and a reason to why he is putting up these frogs, he wants to spread the word using his art.
